About

Hi, I'm Leonardo Delfino.
A student, a programmer, and an aspiring researcher.

I'm presently pursuing my Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Pisa. I love solving intricate problems, competing in programming contests and gaining knowledge in new things. I have a deep interest in machine learning, low-level code optimizations, coding, algorithms and Rust.

My work style makes me oscillate between two selves — on one hand, I think about making a near-perfect IT system by writing beautiful code, using the right technology and the most efficient structures. On the other hand, I think about human interaction and how I can make the system usable by the users it was designed for.

I strongly believe that computer programming is an art. In a 1974 speech called “Computer Programming as an Art”, the renowned American computer scientist and mathematician Donald Knuth remarked: “My feeling is that when we prepare a program, it can be like composing poetry or music; as [the Soviet computer scientist] Andrei Ershov has said, programming can give us both intellectual and emotional satisfaction because it is a real achievement to master complexity and to establish a system of consistent rules.”

Non-academically, I am interested in composing neoclassical music and playing the guitar.
